Sunday in Liv Golf Michigan

I don’t think Liv could have asked a better finish for a weekend from Golf in Michigan. After two rounds of match game and a round of impact game, Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII was in a draw with Bryson Dechambeau’s Crushers. Two playoff holes later the legion conquered.

The thirteenth legion is not one that can be admired historically. But I think it sounds cool.

If you want all the details of the tournament, there are many reporters who produce blow-by-blow accounts. Just like with my messages on Friday and Saturday, I will concentrate on what it was like to be a spectator.

A representation from the thirteenth.

I have no official daily figures, but my feeling was that the course was not as busy on Sunday as on Saturday. Apart from the scrum on the first hole while the lead groups left, fans in most places were one to two deep around the Tee Boxes and Greens. On Saturday they had been three to four deep. There were also few fairways with people along the edges on Sunday.

That made viewing the golf shots much easier.

I recorded a screenshot of a re -broadcast of the crowd around eighteenth (normally the ninth) when the last play -off Holse was resolved. It’s a good crowd. As you can see, the spectators are five and six deep around the green and one and two deep mixing through the fairway.

But that is also the only gap on the track that is still being played, so it’s a people magnet. Some were undoubtedly on the amphitheater site that waited for the Swedish Mafia concert, but most remaining real Golffans were at the end in the last gap.

In the end I think that Liv’s forces are that will be satisfied with the totals of the weekend. Allegedly there were 40,000 fans during the three -day event.

People certainly seemed to have fun. It was a day -long party with a concert at the end, with the help of Golf as an excuse. I never remember that I saw baseball-park-style sellers walking the site of a golf course that have their beer and canned cocktails, but there they were.

Screens all on the job meant that customers could view the promotion without really walking around. Just enjoy a drink and enjoy the beautiful weather outdoors.

The weather couldn’t have been better. It was on the edge of warm, with a steady breeze and blue skies. It is the kind of day you wish would last forever.

I was almost clocked on the seventh hole by a drive three -quarters of the road along the Fairway. I went back behind one of the signs that warned spectators that “duck and coverage means.

A minute later a man who stood near me took a tee -shot to the cheek. He went downstairs and the EMTs arrived quickly and started working on him. His cheek was bleeding.

The player who had hit the man – Tom McKibbin – walked straight to him that he was tied in a stretcher and played his shot. I was honestly very surprised. It is the first time that I have ever seen a player for the fan he had hit. There are usually apologies and a ‘comfort prize’. It is known from Phil that it will play puds of cash; At least others sign a glove.

Not McKibbin. One of the veterans must have a conversation with the man.

I thought the cardinal was as a course. There was something talking that it might be too easy for professional talent. A media person I know said it was not a championship quality course. Indeed, on Saturday evening there was media speculation that the Cardinal could yield a 59 in aaving game.

That was not the case. The Deschambeau’s -8 was the best round of the day. Thomas Pieters and Abraham Ancery killed a -7. A couple of boys were on -5. Cam Smith shot a +1, just like Peter Uihlein. Richard Bland was at +2. Frederik Kjettrup entered +3.

If you project a -8 over four days, DECHAMBEAU would have been to -24. That would have been on the high side of a PGA Tour event, but not unheard of. Tommy Fleetwood was -18 in this weekend’s tour championship.

Phil Mickelson hits a shot.

I also think that the cardinal is a very attractive course for a tournament. Fairways and Greens were unspoilt. Trees could frame the holes nicely. Many of the holes hang on the edges that good spectator positions have made. There are a few beautiful raised tee and green areas that offer a striking view.

One of the great ways to watch a tournament is to find a place with a good view of a green or tee box and to make a claim. The cardinal has many such places in the shade of a tree.

If I was an informal Golffan, for a fun outdoor day of music, parties, concert and golf, LIV have checked many boxes.

As a serious Golffan I have some reservations about that in a few days more that I have processed the whole case mentally.
