It doesn’t matter that the PNC Championship is a family event, or that it’s a battle, or that everyone is in the holiday spirit. No one at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, plays to lose.
Especially on Sunday, when the final round is played.
Pro Nick Price said on Saturday afternoon: “Last year we came last and that put a blow on our backs.”
Son Greg Price said: “That didn’t feel too good.”
Nick Price said: “I said to Greg, he wasn’t very happy after the last round last year, and I said, well, you’ve got to let it sting. If it stings, you know you care. So this year it’s just different. I said, we’ll put a smile on our face and go play golf and just have fun. That’s the real key.”
Then there are the Kuchars. A reporter asked pro Matt and son Cameron about their “desire to win,” which elicited these responses:
Cameron said: “High.”
Matt said, “We’ve had a taste of not being able to come away with the title belts. They’re super cool. Cam had his eye on those things for a while. You know, our family, the competition is definitely tough, and to be at an event like this is definitely a great experience. Sort of win, lose or draw, you know, it’s just a great week, but a bonus if you can come out on top and claim the father/son title.”
On Sunday, the Kuchars will start the PNC two ahead of John Daly and his son, John Daly II, and will tee off last, at 11:27 a.m. Three groups are three behind and five groups are four behind.
PNC TV broadcasts begin on Sundays at 11:30 a.m., then move to Peacock at 12:30 p.m. before moving to NBC from 1:30 p.m.
