The Phoenix Suns enter 2025-26 with similar questions they have had in the past, such as: Do we have a Point Guard? Is the Point Guard Devin Booker? What does the minute distribution look like? How much combustion do the young boys get? Shall this New coach is the right one? Is Sentience an inescapable curse?
I have no answer for all those – except the latter; Yes – And I also don’t know if the new head coach Jordan Ott still has an answer for them. But I think (and hope) because of the suns. Point Guard And primary ball handler and Jalen Green who offers scoring doll, but not as much creation or facilitation as he has received so far in his career.
That is the role that Green should have played all the time. But the schedule of the rockets did not allow that happen, so that Green is the primary perimeter scoring option for years – a role that he has never fully fulfilled. Given that only about 5 or 6 players in the NBA can play that role efficiently, I cannot fully blame Green for his inefficiencies as a score. He was just asked to do too much. Yes, he took bad photos and yes, he sometimes tried to do so much himself that he removed the rockets from games. But much of that was situational; In addition to Devin Booker, Green would not have to insulate that much, and in a Suns attack that must trust the ball movement to defeat defenses, Green is asked to shift his playing style for the first time.
Whether Green is actually willing to refrain from part of that insulation is another important question and can determine how successful this half of the defense will ultimately become. But Green has the opportunity to improve his efficiency this season than ever before, and that all starts with the improved facilitation carbones of the book.
Devin Booker may have to become a full point Guard this year
Devin Booker changed the last two seasons as standard in the Suns Point Guard, so he didn’t have much different choice than to become a high -level passer. And to make the Booker / Green coupling work, Book must take his creative skills Another level in 2025-26. That does not mean that he sacrifices his own score, but would it be so crazy to see him shift to a Tyrese haliburton-like role? I don’t think – and it might be the best way for this team to get his attack off the ground.
However, it is not only the addition of Groen that this schedule leaves with so many questions, and a lack of scoring creation outside the half of the defense makes it more difficult. Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal have disappeared. Green, Dillon Brooks, Mark Williams and Kaman Maluach are inside. Ryan Dunn has an extra year of experience. There is talent outside booker and green, but it is not offensive creation talent. I don’t know how it is all managed, but Devin Booker with the ball in his hands a lot seems like a good place to start.
