The Phoenix Suns officially separated this summer with Kevin Durant – and the further both sides of each other are removed – the more we will wonder what could have been. There is no doubt that despite the lack of success after the season and the relatively short time that Durant called the Valley Home, he was still one of the best players who ever set up a Suns sweater.
The 36-year-old is now at the Houston Rockets, and the schedule that he is now part of it looks like it was built in mind as the missing piece. Center Alpen Sengun is a superstar in the making, while Amen Thompson is already one of the best two -way players in the competition. Add a closer as a durant to the mix and there is a reason why many people are high on the rockets on the way to the next season.
Durant reveals that he could play for Team USA again in 2028.
Looking at the future – and the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028 – and few would expect that Durant would participate. He is already the most successful male basketball player in the history of his country, and the four gold medals he has already collected will be difficult to beat. But according to Durant himself, he is ready to play in 2028 as long as he was “not washed”.

It is clear from the video that Durant has fun with the question, but it does give an interesting thought exercise because it relates to the suns. There is no doubt that they had to make major changes outside season this season, but that Durant had lost the right thing to do? After all, his time in Phoenix saw him 90 percent of the attacking specimen that he has always been.
The shortcomings of the team were not his fault, he actually stopped his end of the bargain. It was bad transactions at the front office in combination with the in the second apron, which meant that the grid could not be built to get the most out of Durant and Devin Booker as a tandem. The worst of everything, the franchise seemed to repair the biggest mistake they made while they had durant, but they did that too late.
Popping Bradley Beal – even if he will be on their salary limit for the next five seasons – was undoubtedly the right decision. By doing this, the Suns would have been able to become more aggressive in transactions, and perhaps even could even have led them to combine Jonathan Kuminga to combine in addition to Durant and Booker. We now know what to do to get that done.
But if Durant really believes that there is a chance that he can be in Team USA in 2028 – and also not as a token gesture at the end of the bank – then the Suns gave him up too early that year. Remember that there was no external pressure that we were aware of ending the durant term of office in the valley. A potentially devastating error that the suns will feel full power for years.
