Summa Cum Laude sits 10th on the US list of 2YO money-winning sires – ahead of super sires Always B Miki (16th) and Bettors Delight (17th) – with earnings of $1.5 million and looks confident of winning the US first-season sire prize for 2025.
His racing record is equally impressive. He won $480,000 as a 2YO and won the 2YO Colts Breeders Crown finals in 2020 with Perfect Sting.
His mother, Western Graduate, won 54 races and $1.3 million in stakes. She has produced five winners from six foals, including the stalwart campaigner Im Some Graduate (1.49, $860,000), a full brother to Summa Cum Laude.
The first foal to go under the hammer Melbourne is lot 103out of beautifully bred Artplace mare Jilliby Pleasure.
The colt’s granddam, Jilliby Flame, is a son of the immortal Fake Left and is a half-sister to eight winners, including Jilliby Spirit (1.50.2, $495K), G1 Queen of the Pacific winner Jilliby Gold (1.59, $183K) and stalwart campaigner Jilliby Lightning (1.57.2, $115K).
The filly (lot 171) comes from Dancing Silhouette, who comes from the incredibly productive Indigenous/Black Debate family.
And the last foal (lot 175) is a completely American bred yearling from Fromtheotherside.
