Stoke City have reportedly made an attempt to sign Manchester United youngster Harry Amass, who is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

A mass decision looms

Amass joined the club on Wednesday during the summer transfer window and has thrived despite the side’s continued problems both on and off the pitch.

Wednesday currently sit bottom of the Championship table, with -7 points to their name amid an ongoing takeover process. The Owls were given a hefty 12-point deduction in October after going into administration, and were hit with a further six points early last month for further financial breaches.

Despite the team’s problems, Amass has become a reliable starter under Henrik Pedersen and has become one of the club’s most consistent and effective players.

Amass was criticized by Ruben Amorim last month, with United’s head coach suggesting the defender was struggling. But Amass’s individual progress proves otherwise.

The Carrington academy graduate has 17 Championship appearances to his name, recording one goal and one assist in that time.

Pedersen has repeatedly spoken highly of Amass and expressed his desire to continue working with the England international. There was uncertainty over Amass’ situation, with United retaining the option to recall him – a scenario that has been mooted due to the unrest at Hillsborough.

A report from The Peoples Person stated that multiple suitors are lining up to take over Amass before the end of the winter period. On Wednesday they were said to be confident of retaining the 18-year-old, but a final decision has yet to be made.

According to Football insiderStoke City have launched an investigation to sign Amass.

Stoke makes Amass move

The news outlet claims: “Stoke City have made contact during this month’s transfer window about signing Man United defender Harry Amass, sources have told Football Insider.”

“Stoke has shown interest at Manchester United to loan Amass for the second half of the season.”

After a promising start to the Championship campaign, Stoke’s form is faltering, prompting the club to look for new talent. They see Amass as the perfect player to revive their campaign.

Whether United responded to the Potters and what response they gave remains unknown. What is certain is that Amass’ future will be decided very soon.
