States that offer subsidies witnessing a stronger E2W adoption: RBI report

States that offer subsidies have witnessed a stronger acceptance of electric two -wheelers, an indication of financial incentives that influence consumer behavior, according to Reserve Bank or India Bulletin.

“Various studies have shown that monetary stimuli such as discounts, tax credits and lower registration costs are improving EV acceptance by reducing the initial purchase costs for consumers. Most of the state governments have offered incentives together with tax and registration allowances on each new 2W-EV purchase.” Some states have not offered the report.

The report noted that the preferences of electric two -wheelers in the country were powered by a multiple of factors. In the aftermath of COVID-19, the great demand for personal mobility encouraged bicycle rental companies to add more 2W-EVs to their fleet. An analysis of the 2W-EV Adoptieratio in 23 States-Six states that only offered exemptions for tax and registration fees without additional subsidies, and 17 states that gave a registration subsidy together with these exemptions revealed differences in adoption trends.

“Southern and Western regions, early movers in formulating EV policy at state level, have consistently exhibited, while Northern and Eastern regions are left behind. The adoption process in India is therefore clearly non-uniform and non-synchronous, which can be attributed to both local and a few common factors that are different from the reports,” ”

Charging infrastructure

Throughout the country, an important bottleneck in the approval of an electric vehicle above a vehicle with an internal combustion engine is the lack of sufficient charging infrastructure.
