Block production of the Starknet blockchain, one of the most important second-layer (Layer-2) scalability solutions in the Ethereum ecosystem, was completely halted this Monday (5)which affects transaction processing and the operation of decentralized applications that rely on the network.
The problem was officially confirmed by the project team via a post on the social network According to the statement, the priority is the full resumption of blockchain functionality in the shortest possible time.
The network’s native token, Starknet (STRK ($0.09)), was not as affected by the episode: the asset is facing a slight decline of 0.3% in the last 24 hours, trading at $0.09.
During the period of instability, users reported difficulties executing transactions, in addition to the temporary suspension of smart contracts and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols built on Starknet.
Starknet uses zero-knowledge proof technology (ZK ($0.03)) to aggregate transactions outside the main blockchain, providing greater scalability and lower costs.
Second major failure
This is the second major interruption in the project’s block production. On September 2 last year, Starknet was frozen after a series of technical glitches.
The outage was caused by a combination of technical issues: failures in Ethereum nodes caused discrepancies between the network’s new sequencers, manual intervention ultimately created additional inconsistencies, and a bug in the software responsible for producing blocks exacerbated the situation, requiring chain reorganizations to normalize operations.
