The first match of the T20i series between India and England will take place on 28 June in Trent Bridge in Nottingham. After the T20i series, the ODI series starts on July 16 in Southampton.
Prior to the series with India, English spinner Sophie Ecclestone has chosen to step away from domestic cricket to prioritize her well -being. For the current White-Ball series against the West Indies, the 26-year-old left arm spinner was recently omitted from the national team. According to the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), however, Ecclestone remains eligible for selection for the coming series against India.
In addition to focusing on her well-being, Ecclestone took a break of the sport to tackle a small quad injury. Charlotte Edwards, who recently took on the role of head coach for the women’s team of England after the departure of Jon Lewis, supported Ecclestone’s decision to take a break.
“Sophie has managed a quad niggle last week, but more importantly, she wants to take a step back from cricket for a short period to take care of herself,” Edwards said in a statement.
“We are completely behind that. We want to be able to select Sophie for the India series, but the most important thing for her is at the moment that she feels in a better place. We all agree that a break can now be useful for her to achieve that,” added Edwards.
On the same day that the English West India team was announced, Ecclestone participated in the Women’s One-Day Cup for Lancashire. The young player has since taken 14 wickets over eight games, including four against Surrey in the final of the T20 Women’s County Cup.
With a total of 297 wickets from 177 games, which include seven four-wicket Hauls and five five-wicket distance, Ecclestone has established itself as a powerful spinner for England. Moreover, she is part of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) team, the Up Warriorz.
