According to Italian newspaper Calciomercato, Manchester United have expressed interest in signing Federico Dimarco from Inter Milan ahead of the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old left-back, widely regarded as one of the most consistent players in Serie A, has emerged as a potential target as United look to strengthen their defensive options.
Dimarco has been a key figure for Inter over the past two seasons, contributing both defensively and offensively from the left flank. His precision work, intelligent positioning and impressive work rate have made him an integral part of Cristian Chivu’s system, helping Inter challenge for major honors domestically and in Europe.
Manchester United‘s interest comes amid uncertainty at their full-back. With injuries affecting the consistency of their left-backs and the long-term future still unclear, the club is expected to prioritize reinforcements in that area in the coming period.
Dimarco’s ability to operate as both a traditional left-back and as a left-back aligns with United’s desire for adaptable players who can fit into multiple tactical situations.
However, any pursuit will likely be complicated. Inter Milan view Dimarco as a core part of their squad and are not expected to make any offers below a significant valuation. His current contract puts the club in a strong negotiating position and there is no pressure to sell unless a big offer is made. It is believed that Dimarco himself is based in Milan, where he has risen through the club’s ranks and become a fan favourite.
Despite this, Manchester UnitedThe admiration continues. The club’s recruitment team sees Dimarco as a player who can make an immediate impact in the Premier League while also bringing experience from high-level European competition.
No formal talks have yet taken place between the two clubs, but preliminary internal discussions are said to be underway at Old Trafford as the club determines the feasibility and financial implications of a move.
Would DiMarco be interested in a move to Man United?
From Manchester United’s perspective, pursuing Dimarco represents ambition and pragmatism. He is a proven, high-level player who could take United’s technical quality on the left flank to the next level. His attacking performances – often comparable to those of a winger – would also add a new dimension to their build-up play.
However, or Manchester United must release the substantial sums likely needed to lure him away from Inter is another question.
Given their wider selection needs – including central defence, midfield and attack – prioritizing a premium left-back may not be the most efficient use of resources. But if United are looking for a turnkey top solution for this position, few players fit the profile better than Dimarco.
But given how happy he is at Milan, it could be very difficult to tempt him to the Premier League at this stage of his career.
UNITED TOLD TO HIRE SIMEONE
Manchester United have been urged to overlook interim boss Michael Carrick despite his impressive stardom and appoint a ‘better’ Champions League manager at the end of the season.
Carrick’s return to Old Trafford was only expected to be temporary as Manchester United planned to appoint Ruben Amorim’s permanent replacement in the summer. But United’s impressive form under the ex-midfielder has led to calls for Carrick to take charge permanently at the end of the season.
Andy Townsend has been impressed with the work Carrick has done at Manchester United, but believes the club should look for someone ‘better’. Diego Simeone is listed as his first choice for the job. The pundit believes Simeone, 55, has the ‘qualities’ to help Manchester United conquer Premier League title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.
“I feel like there’s probably someone better than Michael Carrick, even though he’s done really well,” Townsend told Boylesports.
‘I think there are people better equipped to manage a club like Manchester United than him. I think you have to look for an elite manager, someone who has dealt with the greatest players and personalities and has been able to handle the pressure from above and on the shop floor.
‘I don’t think Antonio Conte would be the right fit. Of them all, Diego Simeone is the only manager I would like to see at United.
‘I think his football and the way his Atletico Madrid team has played is more suited to the Premier League. I don’t think his playing style would please the United fans. They want something more flamboyant.
‘But right now United need to get back on level terms with the likes of City and Liverpool and try to stay ahead of Arsenal. I don’t think you want someone to talk about the beautiful game.”
‘You need someone who is willing to put enormous demands on the players on a consistent basis and get performances and victories out of that. Only Simeone has those qualities.’
Would Simeone be a good signing for United?
Old Trafford is a pressure cooker, but Simeone thrives on volatility. In many ways he is exactly the kind of strong-willed figure United once relied on. Could he bring steel, discipline and standards back to the dressing room? Almost certainly. Would it be smooth? Almost certainly not.
Ultimately, United must decide what they need more: style or structure. If the priority is to restore mentality, unity and tactical coherence, Simeone is perhaps the most transformative option available. If the club insists on attacking football above all, he is probably the wrong choice.
Hiring Simeone would be a gamble, but perhaps the kind of gamble a floating giant needs.
STENKOVIC CALLS DREAM MOVEMENT
Manchester United’s search for Aleksander Stankovic is facing uncertainty after the highly-rated midfielder openly admitted that joining Inter Milan would be his ‘dream move’. The 20-year-old, who has been monitored by United for several months, admitted as much in comments from Italian side Calciomercato – a development that could complicate the Premier League’s attempts to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
Currently regarded as one of Europe’s most technically gifted young midfielders, Stankovic has seen his stock rise sharply over the past year following standout performances at home and abroad. His ability to dictate tempo, press aggressively and operate in multiple midfield roles has attracted interest across the continent Manchester United between the clubs investigating a possible switch.
However, his latest comments could force a reassessment in west London. “Inter Milan has always been my dream,” Stankovic said, according to Calciomercato. “It’s a club I’ve followed since I was a kid and it would be something special to wear that shirt one day.”
For Manchester UnitedStankovic represents the profile they usually focus on: young, high-quality, tactically flexible and not yet at the highest market price. But the player’s public statement raises questions about both feasibility and motivation.
Will Man United continue their pursuit?
Sources close to the club have previously indicated that Unitd carried out background checks on Stankovic and were impressed with his progress. Still, enthusiasm alone does not guarantee a deal, and the Red Devils would remain cautious about entering into lengthy negotiations with players who may already have a clear preference for another destination.
That said, Man United have not been deterred by player preferences in the past. The club has successfully convinced several targets initially inclined towards alternative options, using project clarity, financial strength and the promise of Premier League exposure.
The key consideration now will be whether Stankovic sees Man United as a viable long-term environment or simply as a stepping stone – something the club is increasingly wary of.
There is also the matter of competition. Inter Milan’s points of interest Manchester United in a difficult position: facing the player’s dream club is rarely beneficial. Inter, which continues to prioritize youth integration, would likely offer a tailor-made development path and immediate emotional appeal.
At this stage Manchester United They are expected to keep Stankovic on their watchlist rather than make an aggressive bid, preferring to monitor the situation as they explore alternative midfield targets ahead of the summer window.
Should Inter delay formalizing their interest or face financial constraints, the Red Devils can re-enter the race with more confidence.
