On Saturday, Larry Stalbaum’s stable saw one of its members win the Open Pace for the third time during the young running season at the Saratoga Casino Hotel.

Stalbaum’s Blazing Home N won twice early in the month in the recommended race for pacers and on Saturday his second-choice Rocknroll Runa A scored 8-5 in the $16,500 Open.

After a kilometer of parked driving, Rocknroll Runa A found an early fourth-place finish in Saturday’s race. The favorite He’zzz A Wise Sky (Jacob Cutting) took out the fractions, powering through a first quarter of 27.1 before posting a half in 56.1. Stalbaum made his move with Rocknroll Runa A, who confronted the leader after three quarters in 1:24.2 before beating him into submission around the final turn.

The nine-year-old recorded his first win of the year when he stopped the timer in 1:53 and fended off a late bid down the stretch from Tenzing Bromac N (Ron Cushing), who finished second on his debut in the local Open. He’zzz A Wise Sky held on and finished third.

ROCKNROLL RUNA N REPLAY

Stalbaum owns, trains and controls Rocknroll Runa A, who has earned over $800,000 in his career.

Live racing continues Sunday at Saratoga with a matinee starting at noon.
