St. Mellion’s Bush Scoops Global 59club Award – Golf News | Golf magazine

Mike Bush, course manager at St. Mellion Estate In Cornwall, the superintendent of the year was named during the first 59club Global Service Excellence Awards.

The experienced Cornishman defeated Golfbaan superintendents from 22 countries worldwide, on the shortlist to ten nominees, in the very first worldwide prices of 59 club for 300 people during a shimmering ceremony in the new Masters Suite in the Belfry Hotel & Resort near Birmingham, England.

Bush’s Pride and Joy, the world -famous Nicklaus Signature Course in St. Mellion, is one of the most breathtaking golf courses in Europe, and like all superintendent nominees Bush and his team have experienced an intense data -driven assessment period with Mystery Shopping and Benchmarking.

In the latest assessment, their presentation of the Nicklaus Signature Course was measured on the basis of the world’s best golf experiences in Denmark, Ireland, Australia, Canada, England, the US, the VAE and Thailand.

Hometown

St. Mellion achieved an amazing almost perfect score and Bush accepted the prize on behalf of his team. “St. Mellion is in my blood,” he said. “I am a proud Cornishman and grew up in the village of St. Mellion, so I feel a deep personal relationship with the estate here.

“I am so proud to receive such a prestigious prize, and I am very grateful for this rare award, but I see this as much as a victory for my dedicated team and for the glorious St. Mellion landscape that we have cultivated in this corner of Cornwall, because it is a personal performance.”

Bush came to St. Mellion in October 1995 after an early career in the construction of the golf course and then supervised the course for a large number of professional events at the European Tour and Senior Tour. He reached the status of Bigga Master Greenkeeper in 2011 and is still one of the less than 100 people in the world to earn this status to this day.
