Srixon is back in the game improvement iron world, entering the super game improvement market for the first time.
The company unveiled its new ZXiR and ZXiR HL irons, marking the company’s first true game improvement iron since 2015 with the ZXiR and the first-ever super game improvement iron with the ZXiR HL. The last game improvement iron was the Z355 in 2015.
“With the introduction of our new game improvement irons, and for the first time ever, a super game improvement model, Srixon opens the door for more golfers to experience the performance and feel like our irons are being celebrated,” Srixon VP R&D Jeff Brunski said in a press release. “These additions represent a new chapter in our innovation journey, delivering the cutting-edge technologies and premium craftsmanship players expect from Srixon and making them available to players of all levels.”
The new irons feature a new i-ALLOY, which the company says is 10 percent softer than the 431 steel used in the ZX4 Mk II irons.

What are Srixon ZXiR and ZXiR HL irons?
At the heart of the new ZXiR irons is the company’s new i-ALLOY. The material has been specially developed for the ZXiR irons, the first cast irons in the Srixon series since 2015.
Due to the lighter and softer material, Srixon created a new MainFrame milling pattern for ZXiR faces to redistribute mass, increasing ball speed and forgiveness. The material is used for the body and face of the 8-iron through sand wedge, and only the body for the long and medium irons.

To inspire confidence at address, the ZXiR irons have a larger profile, including a longer blade length, wider sole and more offset than the other ZXi irons.
The ZXiR HL irons have weaker lofts and optimized specs to help slower players get the ball in the air.
Both irons feature many of the same key technologies as the rest of the ZXi iron series, from the wildly popular Tour VT sole to a progressive groove pattern that adjusts in width and depth based on loft.
Who are Srixon ZXiR irons intended for?
With the new ZXiR and ZXiR HL irons, Srixon now has a complete iron lineup for every player on the spectrum. The ZXiR irons fit right behind the ZXi4 hollow irons as an iron for mid to high handicappers looking for high forgiveness and speed.
The ZXiR HL irons are intended for players with slower swing speeds who need a boost to get the ball in the air. There is also a women’s version.

My thoughts!
When it comes to game improvement irons, many designs on the market contain so much visible technology that it can be a real turn-off for many players.
With the new ZXiR irons, Srixon has done a really good job of keeping the look and styling that made their new ZXi series so popular, while expanding it for less experienced ballplayers.
The aesthetics certainly won’t put anyone off, as they really do look like an iron for better players, only bigger.
The Tour VT sole can help many players in this category, but until now players had to have the skill of playing a ZXi4 iron at distance to get it.
