While the Windsor Spitfires posted a 5-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves on Friday night, three players also reached major milestones.
Entering the 2025-26 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season, the Spitfires knew they had an experienced squad with a shot at the West Division and Western Conference regular season titles. Led by captain Liam Greentree (New York Rangers), they have talent throughout the lineup to go far in the play-offs. That talent comes with potential milestones, and three players reached major career marks during Friday’s game. Let’s see.
Costanzo reaches the 100 win mark
One of the biggest pieces of the Spifires puzzle this season is goaltender Joey Costanzo. The 20-year-old was a rock in 36 appearances, ranking second in the OHL with a 2.11 goals-against average and ninth with a .911 save percentage. Both are career highlights for him. He’s also third in the league with 27 wins, which is where the milestone comes into play.
Costanzo came to the Spitfires from the Niagara IceDogs in September 2022. Although he had five wins with the IceDogs, his career really took off with the Spitfires. He racked up 26 wins for them in 2022-2023, and then another 10 in the rebuilding (and frustrating) 2023-2024 season. However, he bounced back last season with a dynamite 32-win campaign. Earlier this season he won his 87th matchbeating the former’s previous franchise record star goaltender Michael DiPietro (86 from 2015-18). All eyes were on the century mark.
Luckily, thanks to some big saves and great defense in front of him, he earned his 100th win against the Wolves on Friday. He becomes the seventh goaltender in OHL history to achieve that goal, joining names like Adam Dennis. JP Anderson and Kyle Gajewski. Anderson leads all goaltenders with 126 wins.
While wins are often a team statistic, there is little doubt that Costanzo has had a huge impact on this club. Without him, they probably won’t be fighting for the top seed this season.
Villeneuve reaches 200 points
For much of his OHL career, forward Nathan Villeneuve was known as an offensive, brash veteran who could do a little bit of everything. The 19-year-old Seattle Kraken prospect did it all for the Wolves for three and a half seasons before being traded to the Spitfires at the trade deadline.

While he is not focused on pointshe has kept his offense going since the move. On Friday, he gave Greentree a solid pass on the power play, who then brought it home. Not only did it help the club on its way to victory, but it also gave Villeneuve 200 points in his OHL career. He also now has 59 points in 40 games this season, including 15 points in 12 games with the Spitfires.

He added another point later in the match to reach 201 points. He is now just nine behind Spitfires’ great Matthew Maggio (210 – New York Islanders). His two-point night also extended both his points streak and his assists streak to eight games each (two goals and 10 assists).
Greentree surpasses milestone of 300 points
Over the past four seasons, Greentree has been a symbol of consistency for the Spitfires. Their 2022 second-round pick made an impact early and hasn’t looked back. After 90 points in 64 games in 2023-24, he exploded for 119 points in 64 games last season. There was eager anticipation for the Los Angeles Kings to bring him back from camp in October to see how many milestones he could achieve this season.
In January, he surpassed former Spitfires player Blair Barnes for third all-time in goals with 128. He is now also tied for fifth place, tied with Joel Quenneville for fifth all-time with 168 assists. However, there was still a big one ahead: 300 points.
Thanks to Villeneuve’s pass on the power play, Greentree used a one-timer to give his club a 1-0 lead and put him the elite point of 300 points (via 225 games). He becomes only the third Spitfire to reach that total, behind defenseman Ryan Ellis (314 – 2007-11) and current general manager Bill Bowler (467 – 1991-95). It’s a huge achievement and if all goes well, he certainly has a shot at getting into those impressive two slots.

According to the OHL editionhe is the current active league leader in career goals and points and is one of only three active players with 100 goals and 100 assists. He also belongs to an elite group with “the most points in the OHL since 2015-16,” including Nick Suzuki (328), Jason Robertson (317) and Morgan Frost (310).
This milestone comes less than 48 hours after the Kings traded Greentree to the Rangers also in a deal for Artemi Panarin. While the youngster likely has a lot on his mind, getting this number out of the way is a big deal as the club marches towards the play-offs.
With the victory, the Spitfires officially clinch a playoff spot. Now the club has Saturday off and heads to Sault Ste. Marie will take on the Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon.
