The Atlanta Braves recorded the Milwaukee Brewers tonight and wanted to delay the A -Team that their best sixty game rack had in the franchise history.
The Braves attack has recently been a problem outside the twelve run extra inning victory against the Reds. They have since had on average a little more than two points per match. Ozzie Albies and Marcell Ozuna have been successful against Jose Quintana, which might have been a factor in the reason why there was a big commotion tonight in the line -up of the Braves, where Eli White is hot, led by Ozzie Albies who hit second and Marcell Ozuna the start at DH Hitting Clanup.
This commotion worked demonstrably in the first inning. After Spencer Strider did his thing at the top of the first by eliminating Frelick, making old friend contreras to Groundout and Murphy Isaac Collins threw away after a walk, the Braves attack first hit. Eli White dropped out, but then Ozzie Albies’ Matt Olson out, but Marcell Ozuna came through and crashed to put runners on the corners. Sean Murphy then rode in the first run of the game with his own single to make the score 1-0. Jurickson Profar stood up to end the collection.
Strider started the second inning strongly by beating Yelich and Vaughn back-to-back, but then gave up back-to-back doubles to Perkins and Turang to bind the game. Seigler was on his way to go to half of Braves’s inning. In the second, not much can get going for the Braves, except Nick Allen from all players to push for some offense. He hit a single and then stole second. Unfortunately that was the only attack for the Braves.
Strider got problems again in the third. He let Ortiz come apart, but it was a deep to the left. He then gave up a single to Frelick. Contreras struck, but then Collins doubled to put runners in second and third place. Strider shook it off and made Yelich. The Braves went three-up-three-down in their half of the third while Albies collapsed, followed by both Olson and Ozuna who expressed it. Although, to be honest, it was a controversial call on Ozuna that looked inside a 3-2 count, including another called strike that was much low.
The fourth inning had more proof that Strider had a ‘night’. He gave a lead-off solo shot to Andrew Vaughn to make the score 1-2. Strider then gave up a single to Perkins, but then Murphy threw his second runner away from the game to stop the damage. Turang broke a row to Olson, but it was hit 102.0 mph and then Seigler hit a single. Strider then gave up his fourth double of the game when the ninth Slagman, Ortiz, got one of one. Strider was then able to have Frelick closed to end the top of the fourth. The Braves could not go back because they could only produce the minimum number of batters, because Murphy, Profar and Harris were all.
Although Strider clearly struggled, he remained in the game for the fifth inning. This turned out to be a mistake. Contreras caught up, but then Collins hit a single, Yelich doubled, but then Vaughn Collins scored on his groundout to make the score 1-3. Perkins then hit a shot with two run to make the score 1-5. Strider was then removed for Aaron Bummer. Bummer let Turang land.
Strider didn’t have his best things tonight. His biggest reasons for turning things around this season is that he has raised his strikeout rate and dropped his HR rate. That didn’t happen tonight. In 4.2 Innings he gave five on eleven hits. Seven of them were extra basehits, including two hours. The good news is that he only had one walk to his six strikeouts.
The Braves could scrape a little in the fifth. Alvarez doubled by a single from all to put runners on the corners. White then scored a point with his groundout. Unfortunately, Albies and Olson could not maintain the momentum.
Bummer remained in the competition to pitch the sixth. After two groundouts, he gave up a single to Frelick. He then secured his third groundout of the inning. In the sixth Ozuna and Murphy it couldn’t get it done, but then Profar came through with a solo shot to make the score 3-5. Harris stood then.
Bummer continued to stay in the game. Collins then ticked a single. After Yelich was set up, Stal Collins second. Vaughn was then hit by a Bummer throw. Bummer limited the damage by turning out Perkins and then Turang to Groundout. The Braves then still had a three-up-three-down show in the seventh.
Daybel Hernández then came in to pitch the eighth. Outside a walk to Frelick he got the job. In some routine, Albies popped up when it was his turn in the eighth, when both Olson and Ozuna put it out. Raisel Iglesias came in to pitch the ninth and looked solid. He gave up a single, but that was the only basic runner.
This led to the bottom of the ninth with the Braves with two. Of course Trevor came in Megill to pitch, which would be difficult for many teams with the way he pitches this year. Murphy and Profar both standing off, but then Money Mike continued with a monster solo shot on a fastball that was thrown in the middle to make the score with 4-5. Baldwin then came in to squeeze the hit for Alvarez. He gave up a good fight, but finally smashed to end the game.
The spiral of the Braves continues because they have only won three of their last ten games. The Braves will hopefully be able to turn things against the Marlins tomorrow when the fish come to the city.
