Special Olympics announces the 2025 – 2027 Global Youth Leadership Council

In honor of the International Youth Day, Special Olympics is proud to announce the newly selected 2025 – 2027 Global Youth Leadership Council (GYLC) – A diverse and dynamic group of 16 youth leaders, both with and without intellectual disabilities. These leaders represent 8 special Olympic programs in all seven worldwide regions, including Special Olympics ChileThe host program for the 2027 World Games.

International Youth Day, annually on 12 August, recognizes the crucial role that young people play in building more inclusive, sustainable and fair societies. This year, Special Olympics will continue to empower young people as change agents by welcoming a new cohort of global leaders who focuses on promoting inclusion through sports, education and advocacy.

16 Youth leaders with and without intellectual disabilities that have been selected for the Global Youth Leadership Council 2025 – 2027.

The Global Youth Leadership Council is the highest level of youth leadership within the Special Olympics Movement. Council members serve a period of two years, in which they guide global youth programming, support the development of local and regional initiatives and play an integral role in shaping the Global Youth Leadership Summit 2027, which will take place next to the Special Olympics World Games in Santiago, Chile.

The council of 2025 – 2027 includes:

  • 16 Youth Leaders (8 United couples of young people with and without intellectual disabilities)
  • Representation of 8 Special Olympics programs and all 7 worldwide regions
    • Programs include: Chile, Macau, Morocco, Paraguay, Pilipinas, Slovakia, South Africa and the United States of America
