The recently completed southern peak has been considered a huge success.

“I am more than happy. It just shows how much a little extra money can make a difference for the region and trainers are happy to train their horses for a little longer than they would have,” said Southern Harness General Manager Jason Broad.

Broad says that the number of horses entering in the coming months can be influenced by racing the winter, but it is encouraged by the strong numbers in local training sessions.

“Hopefully that helps to compensate for a number of horses that will make a break.”

The series was held over three meetings in Winton, Invercargill and Gore. With $ 15,000 heats and $ 25,000 finals, there is strong sponsorship support from Diamond Creek Farm and Southern Bred Southern Getared (SBSR).

This time last year, southern clubs were given sixty horses that accepted at local meetings, while the southern overvoltage numbers were between one hundred and one hundred and thirty horses.

Broad says that HRNZ has indicated that they are happy that the Southern Golf will be run again next year.

“That will also be an extra bonus for the region and it would be great to have another series in a part of the season.”

Turn around for the three meetings is between the high $ 700,000 until the low $ 800,000.

“I know that HRNZ is happy with the turnover figures. Not only ours but throughout the country. It can have something to do with the Geo -blocking that happened.”

There will be some changes around the fitness conditions for the southern Gulf and handicaps may have to be viewed for the trotters.

“It was a little difficult for those carriers such as bringing the muscle. We might have to have a maximum back line of twenty meters instead of thirty. It is something that I have to sort with HRNZ.”

Final day on Gore produced super fast times with six track records broken yesterday.

No Angel’s Time of 2-01.7 For the 1700 meter mobile was the first record that fell. Her time defeated the previous record of 2-02.8 set by Sky Fawkes in December 2023.

Hobb’s time of 2-50.3 For the 2200-meter stand was a new troubling mare record, which reduced the record time of Mixed Faith 2011 from 2-47.2.

Smart two-year-old Merrieveeulen Lizzie Borden’s time of 2-01.3 was a new record of two years old. The old record was recorded in 2015 by Jodi Diren.

Tarragindi at 2-50.5 for the standard 2200 meters, she is crispy at 2-40.2 and always dreamed on 2-38.6, around the record break day. All were three-year-old records and all-comers records.
