Southampton have agreed a loan deal for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, with the reporter reporting that medical treatment has already been completed Fabrizio Romano.

Southampton showed ambition during the summer transfer window by strongly backing Will Still with a string of new signings. However, the Belgian failed to translate that investment into results and was fired after just 13 league games.

Tonda Eckert has since enjoyed greater success as his successor. Still, January is expected to bring movement to the squad, with a possible departure opening the door for one or two newcomers.

In the weeks leading up to January it became clear that a new goalkeeper was on the agenda. Now, just hours after the window opened, the Saints appear to have their man, the reporter said Fabrizio Romano.

He has said that Southampton have agreed a loan deal for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz and that a medical treatment has been completed. The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Hamburger SV but has made just two appearances, both in the cup.

Southampton will have an option to buy Peretz at the end of the loan deal. The compensation would be approximately €8.5 million.

More on potential Southampton man Daniel Peretz

Born in Tel Aviv, Peretz rose through the ranks at Maccabi Tel Aviv before earning a high-profile move to Bayern Munich in 2023. He has largely acted as a back-up in Germany, providing competition to established names such as Manuel Neuer.

A loan spell at Hamburg was expected to give him regular minutes, but instead he found himself behind Daniel Heuer Fernandes in the goalkeeping hierarchy. As a result, consistent first-team football has remained elusive.

Peretz also has international experience with Israel, earning ten caps since his debut in 2022. However, he is currently behind Omri Glazer in the national team pecking order.

A possible move to Southampton could provide the regular starting role he needs. That opportunity would significantly improve his chances of establishing himself as Israel’s first-choice goalkeeper.

A quick fix for the saints

This is a promising start to the January window for Southampton. They captured a key target very early in the winter.

Another target of theirs was Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson. However, he has a lot of interest from other Championship teams and any deal for him could easily come late in the window.

Patterson has a lot of championship experience, but Peretz has experience in Europe. It will be interesting to see how the Bayern Munich man fares in the championship.
