South West Table Tennis: Celebrating local success – Table Tennis England

Welcome to the November South West Area update

This month we highlight two fantastic stories from across the region that showcase the commitment, creativity and energy of our table tennis community. From facility development to major equipment investments, these projects demonstrate the impact that proactive volunteers and clubs can have on local playing opportunities.

Honoring the past and planning for the future

Failand Table Tennis Club has a remarkable history, starting with a building donated to its members and rebuilt by volunteers into a thriving table tennis house. As the business continues to grow, the club is now exploring how to renovate the space and adapt it for the future. You can read the full story here:

Investing in Stroud ensures world-class quality in local play

Stroud Table Tennis Club has recently invested over £7,000 in brand new, top quality tables and nets, enhancing the playing experience for participants in their community. This significant upgrade supports both training and competition, ensuring players can benefit from excellent equipment for years to come. Read more here:

Supporting the next generation of coaches

Good luck to the 25 aspiring coaches taking part in Level 1 coaching courses in Gloucestershire and Devon this month. A special thank you goes to the hosts of these courses: Malcolm Woodrow from Thornbury Table Tennis Club and Paul Whiting, who is also the course teacher at Plymouth Joola.

This new cohort joins the 30 coaches who have completed their training in Bournemouth and Nailsworth since August. It’s fantastic to see so many people stepping forward to develop their skills and support the growth of table tennis in the South West.

Good luck also to those who participate in the online TO2 Course.

The power of sharing good news

Sharing positive stories like this is crucial. It celebrates the achievements of our volunteers, highlights the work happening within clubs and leagues, and inspires others to take similar steps in their own communities. Promoting good news helps strengthen connections within the table tennis development network and increases awareness of the opportunities to play, learn and belong. Every success, big or small, contributes to the growth of the sport in the South West.
