Sources: Update on the transfer saga affecting Man United and Chelsea following the managerial change

It now no longer seems likely that Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo will push for a move away from Old Trafford in January.

As first reported here in my Daily Briefing exclusivethe change of manager at Man Utd now appears to have convinced Mainoo to wait a little longer at the club.

The Red Devils have been interested in Mainoo for some time, with the England international falling out of favor under former manager Ruben Amorim.

Chelsea, along with Napoli, have been among Mainoo’s suitors in recent times, but it now looks like he will stay at United under new interim manager Michael Carrick.

However, this is a blow for Chelsea as The Blues could do with more depth in midfield after Romeo Lavia’s injury problems.

United’s position had always been that they wanted to keep Mainoo in the squad, although the player himself was seriously considering leaving for more playing time.

The positive for MUFC now is that Mainoo appears to have cooled his interest in leaving so he can now work on getting his place back.

It is understood that Carrick Mainoo has already given some guarantee that he will play a bigger role in the United team in the second half of the season.

ā€œI really like him, I think he just needs a bit of patience and that little bit of rest again, which I’m sure he will get,ā€ Carrick previously said of Mainoo, as quoted by Air sports.

A new start for everyone at Manchester United

Things have clearly gone very poorly under Amorim, so it will be interesting to see what kind of impact Carrick can have.

The former United midfielder is highly regarded as a coach, having previously been part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s staff, while also having an impressive spell as manager of Middlesbrough.

United fans will hope that this proves to be the breath of fresh air the club needs, and that players like Mainoo can benefit from the change.
