Some thoughts about booking tours: A get your guide versus viator comparison | Cheekgirlrich
As I said, possibly Ad Nauseum At this point I went on the worst tour through my life in August in Egypt. And, as many healthy people would probably do in such a situation, I noticed that I was wondering … How did we come here?
I think this has been worsened a bit, because I also made a pretty terrible tour to Montenegro in July. I usually plan pretty excellent vacations, so like … how did two of my vacation go off the rails this time?
And I realized that a common thread between the two terrible tours was your guide.
Now, for years, I have booked a day tour while planning holidays and they have generally been pretty good. In fact, some were so phenomenal, we talk about it almost a decade later.
As a full day tour on the island of Hawai’i that was almost $ 1,000 per person, but without a doubt the most amazing tour I have ever had that not only contained beautiful stops on the island, but also a helicopter ride over a volcano, zipper through the forests and an incredible stop at a winery with the most beautiful views. And this was at a time when $ 1,000 was an incredible pinch But the tour was so good that it was worth it.
My partner and I went on a complete tour through Venice and the surrounding islands, what was exactly what we wanted to experience: part of the history and culture of the place. The Tour was organized brilliantly and became every tourist highlight that you could hope for.
We also went on a full tour in Mexico to Chichen Itza, swimming in a cenote, and a nice tequila that he and I to this day enthusiastically enthusiastically.
Even the somewhat disastrous Croatia/Montenegro journey this summer had a super clear highlight for both me and the BFF, a tour to the blue and green caves.
Do you know what all these excellent tours have in common? I booked them on Viator. Even the great day in the desert in Egypt that I mentioned, we went on before we started the disaster tour the next day – that was a Viator Tour.
When I picked up my earlier booking list, I generally see a number of good or great tours and a few smaller purchases that have all been worked out (such as a cheap airport transfer or a local sightseeing -train ticket that I vaguely remember of a trip to Luxembourgs).
When I made my Get Your Guide bookings in the past, I realized that it was a much more mixed bag and actually laughed a bit because most of my bookings had an aspect of Strange for it. In addition to the two outright terrible bookings (Special Egypt’s 5-day tour and the Perast, Kotor & Budva Small-Group Day Trip), most bookings were small, local activities-as making a mosaic lamp in Istanbul or a Canal Boat Ride in Camden Locks). Things we have just surfaced, did and left – no tours with many moving parts such as transport between multiple stops, meals or hotels. And they were fine.
There was also a Harry Potter studios and a private transfer tour from a few years ago who worked a bit brilliant, because we were one of the first in the studio and for much of our time almost empty sets, but the BFF and I still laugh at the wild of the speakers, with two other ways of the speakers, with a kind of strange music, with a kind of strange music, speakers. It was incredibly weird. But it did come true.
And I hesitate to say that your guide is just bad. This summer we also went on a full day tour at Hadrian’s Wall, which they booked that I really enjoyed. And not so long ago I did a day tour in Lisbon that was also fine.
And, very important, They have given us a complete repayment for the disastrous Tour Egypt. And there was little hassle and they were very opportunely about it. But like … a little zeal at their end, they would clearly tell them that they should not allow that company to even mention on their website. Their reviews, when we dive deeper, were super weird. Very often five stars and enthusiastic about the guides, but with hidden lines that say to avoid the Tour. Like … what? I mean, yes, I should have read the reviews more carefully, but also, why should I read 5 star reviews so carefully to search for hidden messages to perform?
I would also rather not have received a reimbursement and, instead, had been enthusiastic about how great and great our week was in Egypt for the next 10 years, such as the Hawaii Tour or one of the Violet Tours.
So I don’t know. I have to say, the BFF and I have agreed not to book anymore to get your guide tours in the future and I think I can consider that a largely general approach in the future.
Have you booked tours with one or both companies? Do you have a preference?
