Some Nebraska racetrack murders: “Collided [With Another Horse]”; “Pulmonary hemorrhage”; “Acute aneurism” – Errors in horse racing

In a FOIA request to the Nebraska Racing Commission, I confirmed the following killings at that state’s tracks last year.

Fricketts, February 24, Fonner T
“Tripped, broken ankle.” Fricketts was two years old and was being prepared for his debut.

Thatta Peppa, February 28, Fonner S
“Colics, diarrhea – died [just died, not euthanized].” Thatta was three years old.

Shrekk, March 12, Fonner T
“Broken shoulder.” Shrekk was seven years old.

Crystal Symphony, March 13, Fonner S
“Reaction to medication – died [just died, not euthanized].” Crystal was three years old and had played eleven days earlier.

Sweet walk, March 28, Fonner T
“Acute aneurism – deceased [just died, not euthanized].” Zoet was five years old.

Zen Warrior, April 5, Fonner R
“Broken sesamoid, [ruptured] suspensive.” Zen was six years old.

Western Tourist, April 11, Fonner R
“Compound Fracture.” Also: “chronic arthritis follows [prior] surgery.” Western was four years old – “chronic arthritis.”

Patmo, April 19, Fonner R
“Collided [with another horse]knocked to the ground – euthanized.” Patmo was three years old.

Chives Up, May 15, Fonner T
“Broken sesamoid.” Chives were six years old.

Hard to Come By, May 18, Legacy R
“Broken sesamoid.” Hard was five years old.

Go Forever, June 13, Columbus R
“Compound Fracture.” They also noted “previous operations.” Go was five years old.

Mr. Big Shot, June 15, Columbus R
“Acute pulmonary hemorrhage, [sudden death].” Strangely (but not really) the card said: ‘fallen, taken away by ambulance.’ So the ambulance only transported a dead ‘athlete’ weighing 500 kilos. Mr. Big Shot was eight years old.
