The Edmonton Oilers have activated defenseman Alec Regula from injured reserve. The team announced the roster change and as a result, Sportsnet’s Mark Spector is among the analysts who believe more roster changes will follow.
writes Spector“Regula is finally getting rid of IR With [Zach] Hyman and [Mattias] Janmark being set to return should see a slew of trades in the coming week.”
Rumblings in recent days have indicated that the Oilers may be looking for a soft landing for defenseman Troy Stecher. His name has been linked in trade talks, and if Edmonton moves on from the popular veteran, they want to make sure he lands in a spot that suits him. Meanwhile, Frank Seravalli wondered if the Oilers could shop Ty Emberson. The suggestion is that he is the better defenseman, but there could also be better returns from NHL teams if the recently signed blueliner were made available.
Meanwhile, Hyman’s return will mean some changes to the Oilers’ forward group. He is not expected to return until Saturday or Monday evening. Edmonton still has some time, but not much. Depth decisions, guys and rookies, will come. That includes Ike Howard, David Tomasek, Matt Savoie, Curtis Lazar and perhaps Janmark himself.
Whether these players are acquired in trades, placed on waivers, or simply sent to the AHL because they are off waivers, management will have to get under the 23-man limit and under the salary cap ceiling.
“I think Mattias Janmark is one [player who could be traded]”, Seravalli explained during Tuesday edition of Flames Talk.
