The smartwatch of a victim helped search for search and salvation, finding an airplane that went in Dense forests in Montana, said the local Sheriff office on Monday.
Responding crews all three people on board died, said the Gallatin County Sheriff office in a statement.
They were identified as Rodney Convers, 60, and Madison Convers, 23, Van Tennessee; and Kurt Enoch Robey, 55, from Utah, according to the office.
The plane in which they had left on Thursday just before midnight from West Yellowstone Airport, the office said. The Aero Division of the American transport department warned local authorities that the location of the aircraft was unknown, said it.
Search-and-rescue crews were given access to location information on a smartwatch that was carried by one of the three, which brought them to the external crashplace south of West Yellowstone on Friday afternoon, said the Sheriff office.
Two planes used by search-and-rescue teams made the discovery, but team members on the ground still had the work to reach the crash site in what the Sheriff office described as “dense wood”.
Search-and-rescue team members “found the scattered plane and confirmed that all three residents had died,” said it. “The decenters were released from the plane and transported by helicopter, where their remains were transferred to the office of a Sheriff of Gallatin County.”
The Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to a request for information. A report on the FAAs Aviation Safety database says that the aircraft was a variant of the Piper Cherokee, a small, single-motor surface. According to the office, it transported two cockpit crew members and one passenger.
In addition to the National Transportation Safety Board, the FAA was investigating the cause of the crash.
The weather for the area in the last few days included afternoon winds up to 20 km / h or higher, cold night temperatures and high temperatures usually in the upper 70s during the day.
