Arne Slot has said he does not like the increasing reliance on set pieces in the Premier League.

Liverpool top the division in goals scored since the turn of the year, a marked improvement considering they were tied for bottom of the Premier League between the start of the season and December 31.

The Reds scored from several set pieces in the club’s 5-2 win over West Ham last weekend, with the importance of dead-ball situations in the Premier League perhaps more prominent than ever.

Arsenal top the league table and table in set-piece goals, scoring from two corners during the club’s 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday. The North Londoners have now equaled the record for goals from corners in a single Premier League season with 16.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s clash with Wolves, Slot acknowledged the importance of set-pieces but said it is not a style he appreciates.

“Do I like it? My football heart doesn’t like it,” Slot said at his press conference before the match.

“When I think of football, I think of the Barcelona team ten to fifteen years ago. Now it’s not so much a pleasure to watch, but it’s always competitive.”
