Frimpong was withdrawn early in the 6-0 win over Qarabag on Wednesday evening with hamstring problems. The defender joins fellow right-back Conor Bradley on the sidelines, with the latter ruled out for the rest of the season.
Wataru Endo replaced the right-back in midweek, while Joe Gomez previously operated as a wing-back. However, Liverpool lack a natural right-back other than Calvin Ramsay, who has made just three appearances for the Reds since joining in 2022.
Asked about possible arrivals before Monday’s deadline, Slot said at his post-match press conference: “We as a club always make decisions that we at least think [are] smart decisions. So we don’t just look at the short term, we also look at the long term, the longer term. That is why we also sign young players, very good players, but young players who can still develop.
“Now we can see this development with a few. And it always depends on whether there are players available who we think can help us. And if so, can we pay them? And is this also useful for the future in the longer term, because our players are also coming back from injury?”
“I just said that we don’t have a team with four right backs and twelve midfielders and three or four number nines. That’s not how it works here. So we have to do smart things for the near future, but also for the longer future.”
‘First let’s see how Jeremy [Frimpong] is. Maybe he can’t play on Saturday, but maybe he can play one or two days later. We now use a schedule with one match per week, so that usually means fewer injuries, but you can never be sure.”
