Angel Reese is trending to a return. The All-Star van Hemel went through all contactless exercises during practice on Sunday and could be cleared for contact as soon as Monday.
“We still measure to see how her body reacts today and just take it from there,” said head coach Tyler Marsh.
It is the best news that the air has received in weeks. They have gone 1-10 since the All-Star Break, and very little of those games were competitive. Their most recent defeat against the Valkyries was the fourth time that they have lost with 30 points or more, so that a WNBA record of one season was bound.
Reese’s absence has been an important factor. She is the leading rebounder of the competition at 12.6 per match and was also the most creative playmaker of the Sky. She has an average of 3.7 assists per game – top five among postal players. She also supplies a lot of the energy of the team and other intangible assets.
Her return will not save the play -off opportunities of the team. The sky is 8-25 and is in 12th place. But she can help to restore and fight the competitiveness, the properties that the team has missed.
“With 11 games, we don’t want it to be a game where people just want to play Chicago,” said Marsh. “We want to know that there will be a fight every night.”
Reese has missed all-matches since the All-Star Break while rehabilitating a back injury. During that piece she stayed at home from road trips and even missed a competition in Wintrust Arena.
However, she recently went back to the team – participating in exercises and shootarounds. She was on Friday at the court against the Valkyries, another sign of progress. If her rise continues, she could be available on Tuesday when the Sky-Gastheer Seattle.
At the very least, her presence has injected all life into practice. Marsh said that her “Vechtgeest” has an immediate impact on the group.
He was also happy that the overall health of the schedule improves. Earlier in August, the Sky Day injuries injury report sometimes stood up half of the team.
“This is the first time in a long time that we come to one point where we are as healthy as a team like we can, with the exception of Sloot,” said Marsh after training, referring to the seasonal knee injury of Courtney Vanderoot.
The return of Ariel Atkins is also positive. The guard has now played in five consecutive games since she returned from a calf injury, although she was cast out of the game in Connecticut.
Without Atkins and Reese, the air missed their most dynamic players on both ends of the floor. In their absence, the attack stagnated and collapsed the defense. The air currently has the worst defensive assessment in the competition.
Returning Reese will not change the rankings, but it will change the appearance of the last part.
