Jannik Sinner stayed alive in the hunt for the year-end No. 1 ranking thanks to his title at the Rolex Paris Masters on Sunday afternoon. The Italian defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6(4) and added 1,000 points to his annual haul.
Sinner will pass Carlos Alcaraz for the No. 1 ranking on Monday, but the 24-year-old remains 1,050 points behind Alcaraz in the 2025 race. That means Sinner must beat the Spaniard by at least 1,100 points at the upcoming Nitto ATP Finals to end the season in first place.
Here are the scenarios for number 1 in Turin:
Jannik Sinner – Must win the title. If Sinner remains undefeated, he needs at least one loss to Alcaraz in the round-robin and Alcaraz must lose before the finals. If Sinner loses once in RR, he needs at least two losses to Alcaraz. If Sinner loses twice in RR, he needs Alcaraz to become winless.
Carlos Alcaraz – Clinch by reaching the finals, winning three round-robin matches or if Sinner does not win the title. Just needs two round-robin wins if Sinner loses one. It only takes one round-robin win if Sinner loses two.
Nitto ATP Finals ranking points distribution
Round-robin match win: 200
Semi-final win: 400
Final profit: 500
Max. number of points (undefeated champion): 1500
The 2025 Nitto ATP Finals begin Sunday at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy. One spot remains, with Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorenzo Musetti in contention.
