Beijing-De Top-Placed Jannik Sinner won his 11th consecutive career game against Alex de Minaur and continued to the China final, where he will play the student of the United States Ten Ten on Wednesday.
Sinner’s 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory earned him a ninth straight final at Hard-Court tournaments.
The no. 2-ranking sinner dropped a set for the second time in his career a set to No. 8 the Minaur before he recovered control with a series of powerful forehands.
“I felt that the level was very high,” Sinner said. “Many great rallies, many great opportunities for both.”
Tien, the 19-year-old Californier ranked no. 52, plays in his first tour final after Daniil Medvedev withdrew when the score was 5-7, 7-5, 4-0.
Medvedev led 3-0 and 5-3 in the second set and then had limited mobility when apparently affected by muscle cramps. The Russian was warned by the referee because he had done his best.
The ATP event in Beijing is running simultaneously with the WTA event, where Coco Gauff went to the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Gauff Brak Belinda Bencic’s to open the decisive set and defeated the Swiss player with 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
The second placed Gauff improved her career record against the 15th placed Bencic to 4-2.
Three of those competitions came this year, including Gauff’s victory over the Australian Open in January. But Bencic won in Abu Dhabi, and the Olympics gold medal winner of 2021 Tokyo made the Indian Putten quarterfinals and went on to the Wimbledon -and -half final.
