Jannik Sinner feels free to find fans after his US Open Semi-Final victory against Felix Auger-Aliasen on Friday evening that there is no reason for concern about his health. The Italian left the court to get treatment in his abdominal area after losing the second set.
“I just felt a small shaking after a portion when I served in the second set at 4-3. After the treatment I felt much better, much better,” Sinner said. “At one point I felt nothing more. I served normal pace again, so it was all good. Nothing to worry about.
“But I preferred to leave the court because it’s in a different place. So it’s all good.”
Although he was forced to leave the court and dropped his second set of the tournament, the number 1 player rushed back in the PIF ATP ranking for a four set victory, making his fifth consecutive Grand Final.
Sinner has won three of the last four slams and can make it four out of five if he beats rival Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s championship match. The Italian tries to claim his fifth major trophy.
“Great statistics. I never thought I would make this if I became Pro, and now I think myself here, so it’s great,” Sinner said. “I think five straight Grand Slam -final, it’s something great. Placing the consistency and myself there in the later stages of the largest tournaments we have, it’s great.
“But at the same time I know that it is in the back of my mind, whatever I do, but at the same time whatever happens. I am here. I have a very important day of Sunday, and then we will see.”
The defending champion knows that he is confronted with a strict test against Alcaraz, which leads their Lexus ATP Head2head series 9-5. Sinner held three championship points against the 22-year-old in the final of Roland Garros, but falls short. The Italian then earned revenge against Alcaraz in the final of Wimbledon.
“I love these challenges. I love to put myself in these positions. He is someone who has pushed me to limit, which is great, because then you have the best feedback you can have as a player,” Sinner said. “We have now come across a lot lately, so things are getting a little different.
“Always when we get to court, we are aware of maybe more things, because he or me, we try to prepare the match tactically and in different ways. But sometimes it is also nice not to play against him. It’s fun, but as I always said, it’s great for the sport that rivalry has, hopefully great competitions for us.”
