Si Woo Kim is 6-5 in his Presidents Cup career, but his impact goes far beyond a record barely above .500.
As the international team chases its first Presidents Cup victory since 1998, Si Woo Kim brings something to the table that no one else on the international roster does. The South Korean star provides the energy for the international team. He silenced the Quail Hollow crowd when he defeated Justin Thomas in singles in 2022, then famously performed the Steph Curry “Night Night” celebration after a chip-in during a 2024 match that he and Tom Kim later lost.
For 2026 international captain Geoff Ogilvy, there is no doubt that Kim is an essential part of the international team’s hopes of winning in Medinah this fall.
“There are players who get better at these things, and there are players who don’t,” Ogilvy said GOLF’s subpar podcast co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz. “He’s always getting better. He loves that moment. He loves that stage. His best stuff has been in the Presidents Cup. You find a way to get guys like that on the team.”
Ogilvy pointed out how much the international team has fed off Si Woo’s play and antics in both 2022 and 2024. What he brings is infectious.
“Everyone just feels better when Si Woo plays for you,” Ogilvy said. “You just know he’s going to give it his all. The craziness that can come at an individual tournament.” [for him]just doesn’t come. He is the best.”
Kim has gone T11-T6-T2-T3 to open the 2026 season, so he’s well on his way to punching his ticket to the 2026 team. But even if his play falters, he seems like a safe bet to be on the roster this fall. The international team needs what only he can bring.
