He once again finds himself on the unlucky side of things as the batsman is again expected to be out of action for at least three months after suffering a freak injury during the third ODI against the Australian national cricket team.

While fielding at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Shreyas Iyer was injured in a collision after taking a catch while running backwards from point to dismiss wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey.

Notably, Iyer was in extreme pain after sustaining the injury, and he immediately grabbed his ribcage and signaled for medical attention. The physio came running to the ground and took Shreyas Iyer off the field.

Later, the BCCI issued a statement confirming that India’s vice-captain has suffered a ruptured spleen and is being monitored in the intensive care unit. [ICU].

Shreyas Iyer suffered a near-fatal injury

Meanwhile, Dainik Jagran journalist Abhishek Tripathi has made a surprising revelation about Iyer’s injury. He revealed that an email written by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala to BCCI clearly mentions that Iyer could have lost his life if the medical team had not given him adequate treatment on the spot.

“A lot of information is coming out about Shreyas Iyer. The head of the BCCI medical team, a member of the ICC medical team, and the chief medical officer of Kokilaben Hospital, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, wrote an email to the BCCI at 6 pm on the 26th. This is a four-point email. Let me tell you one by one,” the journalist revealed.

“The most important point is the fourth, where he has said that had the BCCI medical team on the ground not made a proper diagnosis and intervened immediately, Iyer’s life could have been in danger. That is to say, the injury was so serious that Iyer could have died.”

“This is Dr. Pardiwala’s fourth point. ‘Your timely diagnosis and immediate intervention saved a life. This is his last point. His last and most important point. The wound was very serious’.”

‘First 24 hours were very difficult for Shreyas Iyer’

The journalist also further revealed that Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala stated that the first 48 hours would be very crucial for Iyer, and that one doctor, Dr. Rizwan, was given the duty of providing the India star’s medical update to his family twice a day.

“In the second point, Pardiwala has written that the ‘first 24 hours are critical and fortunately everything is good for the time being’. That is, last night he said that the first 24 hours were very difficult, full of problems. Fortunately, everything is good for the time being. Now everything is fine,” the reporter added.

“Hopefully we will see the same progress in the next 48 hours. We should not be in a hurry to get Shreyas out of the ICU in the next 48 hours.” There is a third point, which is: ‘There should be a single point of contact between the medical team and Shreyas’ family regarding medical updates. I would suggest that Dr. Rizwan talks to his family twice a day about his medical condition.
