Sheffield Wednesday have shortlisted Nathan Redmond as a potential free agent target The star.

Sheffield Wednesday have been given permission by the EFL to sign two free agents.

It is a big boost for SWFC, which continues to fight against the odds post-government. Although it brings immediate uncertainty, the twelve-point deduction is considered a prize worth putting out of Dejphon Chansiri’s reach. Supporters’ investment in tickets and the club shop has ensured wages are covered until Christmas.

Unsurprisingly, the Owls are considering several free agents, and one new name on the radar is Nathan Redmond.

According to The starthe former Burnley winger has been shortlisted by the Championship club as they weigh up their options. Liam Cooper will join, while Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Duncan Watmore are also being considered.

Sheffield Wednesday targeted Nathan Redmond after Blades’ rejection

Redmond is no stranger to the Football League and he hasn’t been in Sheffield long either, having spent time training with Steel City rivals Sheffield United over the summer.

Former England striker Redmond trained with Sheffield United, who ultimately made no move on the player released by Burnley at the end of last season after earning promotion to the Premier League with the Clarets.

The Star says SWFC has been given EFL permission to sign two free agents and Redmond is now among the current targets.

Nathan Redmond’s career stats to date

The 31-year-old has played for several clubs in the Premier League and Championship, and even spent time in Turkey with Besiktas.

But it is in the Premier League where he spent most of his career. Redmond spent six Premier League seasons with Southampton and currently has a whopping 276 career top-flight appearances, with 28 goals and 25 assists along the way.

He also has 107 appearances in the Championship with 11 goals and 21 assists, and also has two Championship promotions to his name.

For Sheffield Wednesday and manager Henrik Pedersen, this experience is exactly the kind of experience SWFC need to get back above the drop zone before it’s too late, although fans may question Redmond’s fitness record.

Last season he played just two Championship games for Burnley, while the season before he played 12 Premier League games with Southampton.
