Here’s a round-up of the latest headlines from Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield Wednesday is constantly in the news at the moment. Most of them surround their ongoing takeover, which has quickly become a saga after James Bord’s takeover bid at Sheffield Wednesday collapsed.
But there’s still hope the Owls will have new owners…
Sheffield Wednesday’s latest takeover
After Bord’s SWFC bid failed, it was soon reported that a number of other parties were now drawing up bids. Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is back in the race to take control of Sheffield Wednesday, while David Storch is also back in the race after previously beating Ashley and Bord earlier this season.
But now that Bord’s bid has collapsed, it seems likely that Sheffield Wednesday will receive a 15-point deduction next season. Bord’s bid would have met the EFL’s 25p under the pound rule when it comes to creditors who owe money to Sheffield Wednesday. However, it is clear that Storch and Ashley’s future bids will not suffice.
Lee Gregory critical of Dejphon Chansiri in Sheffield Wednesday
Lee Gregory recently returned to Sheffield Wednesday in an unofficial coaching role. And he has now spoken out against former SWFC owner Dejphon Chansiri, who owes the club around £16million, as he considers the 25p per pound rule.
Championship news
Speaking in an interview in The Football League Paper [print edition]Gregory said of Chansiri: “Chansiri’s only plan was to get to the Premier League. He didn’t invest in the training ground, the facilities, the grounds, nothing. All he cared about was throwing money at players to get to the Premier League as quickly as possible.”
“When it didn’t happen, everything came crashing down. Even though we knew it was coming, it was heartbreaking to see. That’s why these new owners – whoever they are – can’t just come in and focus on moving back up the leagues.”
Pierce Charles injury latest
In what feels like a rare piece of positive news for Sheffield Wednesday, goalkeeper Pierce Charles could return to action in the coming weeks. Speaking to the press, manager Henrik Pedersen was asked for an update on the Northern Irishman, and he said: “There was no reaction in the shoulder after his training yesterday, so it was good.”
And on a possible return date, the SWFC boss added: “I think one of the next two games. I hope so. But let’s see.”
Darren Moore could seal a return to the Championship
Finally, former Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore could be on his way to the Championship. Earlier this season, Port Vale sacked Moore as manager with the club sitting at the bottom of the League One table.
However, now West Brom could appoint Moore to a coaching position as they look for a new management team after sacking Eric Ramsay last month. The Baggies are ranked 21st in the Championship table.
