Sheffield United recorded a 3-0 victory over city rivals Sheffield Wednesday in Hillsborough on Sunday, with Tyrese Campbell scoring twice.
Campbell was on target either side of half-time for Chris Wilder’s Blades, whose victory was secured by an injury-time deflection from Tom Cannon as they came within one point of 21st-placed Oxford United.
Wednesday are still bottom on minus four points, 18 points safe, and they could have few complaints about the result after being outclassed by their rivals.
United went ahead in the 11th after Jairo Riedewald pressed high to regain possession and find Callum O’Hare. He in turn found Campbell’s overlapping run, and the 25-year-old finished quietly.
Ethan Horvath made a big save to deny Danny Ings one-on-one, with the Blades forward also seeing a potential second goal disallowed for a marginal offside move in the 38th minute.
But Wednesday’s defense was breached again early in the second half, with Campbell sliding into the area before firing a neat finish over Horvath and into the bottom right corner.
The hosts failed to attempt a single shot on target and their misery was compounded in the 91st minute when Cannon’s curler struck Liam Palmer before curling into the far corner.
