Manchester United crashed out of the FA Cup after losing 1-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford in the third round on Sunday.
It was a disappointing defeat as the Seagulls made substitutions for the encounter, with interim boss Darren Fletcher selecting a very attacking line-up.
Despite the presence of so many attacking midfielders behind Benjamin Sesko, the attack has not been fluid, while the defense continues to give in to almost every attack.
One of the rare highlights of the match was academy standout Shea Lacey, whose introduction in the second half helped the hosts pick up the pace.
Unfortunate red card for Shea Lacey
However, he was shown a yellow card late on and then his frustration boiled over and the referee showed him a second yellow card.
The referee could have chosen to show leniency as he was only 18 and the match was almost over, a point Fletcher made at the end of the match.
The Liverpool-born youngster has since apologized for his behavior but will miss the Manchester derby next weekend.
Despite some encouraging cameos, his chances are expected to be limited going forward following the impending returns of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad from AFCON.
Ipswich are looking at a loan
That’s why, according to SportsBoomIpswich Town are targeting an ambitious loan for the England U20 international.
Former United assistant coach Kieran Mckenna knows the Carrington graduate well and could offer him regular minutes and an opportunity to develop at a rapid pace by playing competitive senior football.
“Ipswich Town want to convince Manchester United that a loan spell at Portman Road is best for Shea Lacey’s long-term development following the teenager’s departure during last weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, SportsBoom can reveal.
“While neither interim head coach Darren Fletcher nor his much-discussed replacement Michael Carrick are sold on the idea of loaning the youngster out to accelerate his development, City chief Kieran McKenna is considering what would be a bold bid to land one of the most exciting talents to break into the 13-time Premier League champions of recent years.
Lack of minutes likely for Shea Lacey
“Lacey’s preference is also to remain at United, having made three senior appearances since graduating from the youth academy.
“However, the prospect of working with McKenna, a former United youth team coach, would be attractive if Carrick, who is expected to replace Fletcher as caretaker soon, decides to use more tried and tested options in a bid to salvage what has already been a miserable season in the North West.”
But whether Michael Carrick, who is expected to take charge as agent, or INEOS will agree to this proposal remains to be seen.
