In a major setback for West Indies, fast bowling all-rounder Shamar Joseph has been ruled out of the ongoing tour of Bangladesh due to a discomfort in his shoulder. Additionally, Jediah Blades has also suffered a stress fracture in his lower back, forcing him to return home for further rehabilitation. The two have been replaced by Akeal Hosein and Ramon Simmonds for the remainder of the ODI series.

Notably, Joseph was also struck by an injury earlier this month, which ruled him out of the recently concluded Test series against the Indian team, which the visitors lost 0-2. While Joseph traveled with the squad for the white-ball series in Bangladesh, he will not feature in the series again but will initially be part of both the ODI and T20I squads. He did not play the opening ODI in Dhaka as the Caribbeans lost by 74 runs.

The second match will now be played at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, October 21, and the Yes HopeLED side is in a do-or-die situation to keep the series alive. They failed to achieve a paltry total in the previous meeting, and if given the chance to finish second again, the side will hope not to repeat a similar performance, drawing the series 1–1 with the Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led side.

After the third and final ODI at the same venue, the teams will engage in a fierce battle of 20 overs over three matches in Chattogram on October 27, 29 and 31.
