Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) wants all the smoke with anyone who has a name and a title. The undefeated WBC lightweight champion moves up to 140 pounds to challenge The Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs).
The fight will headline the Ring 6 card, which will take place at a yet-to-be-announced location in New York. Here’s what we know about the big boxing event.
Date, time and how to watch
- Date: Saturday January 31, 2026
- Location: New York (location to be determined)
- How to watch: DAZN (exclusive)
- Start time: TBA
The Ring 6 will take place on Saturday, January 31 in New York. A location has not yet been officially announced, although Madison Square Garden has been mentioned in reports. That could be difficult, as the New York Knicks play at home against the Portland Trail Blazers on January 30 and against the Los Angeles Lakers on February 1.
If all else fails, Turki Alalshikh, the man behind the Ring cards and Riyadh Season, is the man to swing it.
The event will be streamed exclusively on DAZN. Start times and ticket information will be announced in the coming weeks.
Stevenson-Lopez: The build-up
This matchup has been brewing for months. When I spoke with Shakur ahead of his dominant victory over William Zepedahe made it clear that he was tired of chasing Gervonta Davis and wanted to fight anyone with a name at the top of the sport. Lopez fits that bill perfectly.
The work behind the scenes has been just as important. In one conversation I had with Eddie Hearnhe discussed securing Shakur a three-fight deal intended to deliver big paydays. The collaboration with Alalshikh and the Ring Magazine events seemingly helped make this clash a reality.
Stevenson-Lopez stakes and storylines
Both fighters are coming in near their peak at age 28. Lopez, a Brooklyn native, has won six straight since his lone career loss to George Kambosos Jr., including a unanimous decision over Arnold Barboza Jr. in May. Stevenson, from nearby Newark, is coming off impressive performances: a TKO over Josh Padley and a shutout against previously undefeated Zepeda.

For Stevenson, a win means he becomes a four-division world champion, adding gold at junior welterweight to the titles he has won at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight. For Lopez, it’s about proving he’s the king at 140 and handing Shakur his first professional defeat.

Lopez is already looking past Stevenson. He recently told Inside Ring that he would like to face Terence Crawford next.
Fight card and rumor additions
The undercard hasn’t been officially announced yet, but if The Ring 6 follows the pattern of previous events, expect star-studded support. One fight that is heavily negotiated in early 2026 is Jaron “Boots” Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr.
Hearn has confirmed that Ennis has signed for the fight, and both Oscar De La Hoya and Eric Gomez have expressed interest in making it happen. Could that end up on this card? It would certainly fit the profile.
Possible additions to the map
All numbered Ring cards are stacked with large and meaningful battles. The Ring 5 was headlined by David Benavidez’s destruction of Anthony Yarde, but there was also Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez’s KO win over Fernando Martinez, Devin Haney’s unanimous victory over Brian Norman Jr. and Abdullah Mason’s victory over Sam Noakes.
I would expect a card with similar names to fill the Ring 6 slate. Could we possibly see Jaron “Boots” Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. see on that map? That would make this event even more of a must-see for fight fans.
