Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, who made his debut in the Big Bash League, endured a nightmarish outing with the ball for the Brisbane Heat against the Melbourne Renegades. The left-arm fast bowler leaked runs at a rapid pace and failed to complete his third over, forcing a teammate to step in and finish it off.
Tim Seifert became the first batsman to reach three figures in this year’s Big Bash League. After a steady start, the New Zealand opener shifted gears dramatically, punishing the Brisbane Heat attack with six sixes and nine fours. The Renegades posted a formidable total of 212 for 5 in Geelong on Monday 15 December.
Shaheen Afridi is having a tough start in BBL
Shaheen Afridi had a tough start to his Big Bash League career. The Pakistan fast bowler struggled with his control and conceded 28 runs in his first two overs.
He was brought back late in the innings to try to slow down the scoring, but things got worse. Afridi bowled two beamers in the 18th over, and the umpires stopped him from bowling for the rest of the match.
Afridi gave away 17 runs from just four legal deliveries. The left-arm fast bowler sent down three no-balls, including two beamers, in the same over, which led to him being taken out of the attack. Nathan McSweeney was asked to bowl the remaining balls.
The BBL later shared a video of the projector with the caption: “Wow. On his BBL debut, Shaheen Afridi has been taken out of the attack!”

Mohammad Rizwan struggles for Big Bash League debut
Shaheen Afridi’s Pakistan teammate Mohammad Rizwan has had a disappointing start to his Big Bash League career. He came to bat at number 3, but struggled to score freely. Rizwan scored just four runs from 10 balls before he was dismissed by Patrick Dooley.
Rizwan never looked calm during his brief stay at the crease, with his slow innings ending in the seventh over. On the other hand, Tim Seifert produced a game-winning performance for the Renegades. Seifert smashed a brilliant century, scoring 102 off just 56 balls with nine fours and six sixes.
The Renegades crossed the 200-run mark for the first time at the venue and went on to post a total of 212 for 5 in their 20 overs.
Tim Seifert etches his name in the record books of the Melbourne Renegades
Tim Seifert etched his name in the Melbourne Renegades record books with a memorable hundred, becoming only the second player from the franchise to score a century in the Big Bash League, joining Aaron Finch.
“Just the second Renegade to bring up the ton, nice innings from Tim Seifert. Gosh, it meant a bit,” said Mark Howard.
Former Australia coach Darren Lehmann expressed his excitement about the future of young batsman Ollie Peake, saying he had shown enough to earn a place at international level.
“I’ve seen enough that this boy is going to play for Australia,” he said on the ABC stand.
