Sergio Pettis has a history with Patchy Mix and has given his thoughts on the former Bellator MMA champion suffering his second loss in the UFC at UFC 320. Patchy Mix even finished off Pettis to claim the Bellator belt, with Mix entering the UFC on the backing of massive hype. Now he’s 0-2 in the UFC, and while Mix fell short to Jakub Wikłacz by split decision, that decision was a bit controversial in some people’s eyes.
When asked for his specific thoughts on that Mix fight at UFC 320 and if he could make it, given his return plans from his own emphatic victory under the PFL umbrella against Magomed Magomedov, which was also on Oct. 4, Pettis said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Yes, I was actually on my way home. So around that time I was on a flight to Paris and I missed the fight. I didn’t get to see most of the card. I actually only got to see the Merab. [Dvalishvili] vs. Cory Sandhagen fight. Luckily my wife FaceTimed me and I was able to see it via FaceTime. But yes, I didn’t get to see anything else on the map.’
“I gotta go watch that fight. I wanna see how Patchy did. I heard the same thing. It was definitely controversial. Like it could have gone either way. But obviously, you know, the other guy [Jakub Wikłacz] have it. I feel for Patch. You know, it’s hard to come into another organization and have all that pressure on your shoulders, especially if you put it on yourself.”
Patchy Mix “put a lot of pressure on himself,” which led to the UFC signing, Pettis said
Continuing to talk about Patchy Mix’s second UFC fight and what the path forward could look like for the striking bantamweight, Pettis continued:
“He [Mix] really talked about how he was: I’m the best outside of the UFC. I could beat this guy and this guy. So I think he put a lot of pressure on himself and when he went there the pressure was already on. So definitely feel for him, but I think he’ll definitely come back. He gets another chance.”
