The focus on American thoroughbred races fell in September 2025 compared to the same month a year earlier, although average figures per day showed improvement despite fewer racing opportunities. Handle has fallen versus the previous year in six of nine months so far in 2025.
According to data released by Equibase on 6 October, the total deployment for the month of September $ 737.3 million, a decrease of 5.9% compared to the $ 783.8 million registered in September 2024. The decrease when the number of race days fell by 9.2% year in the year, Starters per race.

Average field size for 2025 keeps stable at 7.38 starters per race, slightly higher than the 7.34 average during the same period in 2024, which suggests that despite a smaller overall racing calendar, participation remains stable per race.
