Semenyo compares Man City’s start to a ‘fairy tale’ after Fulham win – Soccer News

Antoine Semenyo described his start at Manchester City as a ‘fairy tale’ after registering a goal and an assist to help them beat Fulham and reduce Arsenal’s lead at the Premier League summit.

Semenyo reacted quickest when Matheus Nunes’ hanging cross deflected off Sander Berge to give City the opener in the 24th minute, before firing in Nico O’Reilly to make it 2-0 six minutes later.

Erling Haaland then ended his eight-match wait for an open goal in the Premier League by making it 3-0 in the 39th minute, with City not needing to increase their lead after the break.

Having also fought back to beat Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday, City are now just three points behind Arsenal ahead of the leaders’ visit to Brentford on Thursday, and Semenyo will be an interested viewer for that match.

“It’s new for me. I enjoy it. But of course it brings a lot of pressure and demands,” Semenyo told TNT Sports. “We have the team to do it.

“We just have to keep going. I’ll just sit there and watch the events unfold.” [Arsenal] game, and hopefully it goes our way, so let’s see.”

Since Semenyo joined City from Bournemouth, Viktor Gyokeres and Cole Palmer (eight apiece) are the only Premier League players to improve his involvement with seven goals in all competitions (five goals, two assists).

When asked what was behind his flying start at City, Semenyo said: “There are no secrets!

“It’s just being part of a great team, a great environment, the coach was great and they made it easy for me to settle in. It’s all a fairy tale at the moment.

“It was very important [to win]. That was the message when the match against Liverpool ended.

“We just continued with what we did this weekend. It was a tough task and we got the three points. Today we did the same. I’m happy.”

Since the start of last season, City teammate Haaland (eight against West Ham) is the only player with more goals against a specific team in the Premier League than Semenyo against Fulham (seven – four goals, three assists).
