Sebi has also launched a national training initiative for Panchayat representatives at block level in collaboration with the Ministry of Panchayati RAJ to promote financial literacy and investor education at Grassroots level.
In a statement, the supervisor said that the purpose of the Awareness Campaign is to “warn investors to protect themselves against fraudsters, to curb fraudulent activities on social media platforms and to protect the interest of investors”.
To launch this campaign, the first session of Sebi chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey would be broadcast on All India Radio channels, which has Pan India reach.
The move comes in the background of Sebi, which notes that many investors lose money due to share trading fraud on various social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, X (previously Twitter) and Telegram.
About cooperation with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the regulator said in a separate statement that the initiative would promote financial literacy and investment education at Grassroots level and would enable representatives to train rural communities throughout the country. The first training program was held in 9-10 August at Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration in Pune. The training brought together more than 100 representatives of Sarpanch and block level from different districts of Maharashtra. This program, through structured sessions, was aimed at restoring chosen representatives at block level with essential knowledge about financial planning, savings, investments, guarantee against fraudulent regulations, awareness about the ecosystem of the securities market and available investment applications in regulated space.
