Friday in Liv Golf Indianapolis, one of the most impressive scores in Golf yielded – a 59! – In one of the most shocking ways.
On Friday in Chatham Hills, Sebastian Munoz dismissed a remarkable 12-under-par 59 and she only became the third player in the history of Liv Golf to break the 60 barrier alongside teammate Joaquin Niemann and two-time large champion Bryson Dechambeau.
The Tour of Munoz was downright extraordinary. He Birdied 13 of his last 14 holes, an achievement that is even more impressive if you take his double bogey on the par-4 5th. According to the Associated Pressfrom 15 sub-60 rounds in PGA Tour history (and 15 more in Korn Ferry Tour History), no Has contained a double bogey.
In a press conference after his round, Munoz admitted that the error could have derailed his momentum – but instead served as a turning point.
“I have forgiven myself,” he said. “I didn’t want to keep up and cherish resentment all day. Then I brought 6 for Birdie and started rolling just from there.”
The chip-in on the Par-4 Sixth stuck up the spark and what followed was downright electric. Munoz rattled 13 Birdies about his last 14 holes, but only when he got the piece did he realize that he might have been in the abyss of one of the rounds of his life.
“I think making the Birdies on 16, 17 and 18, they were a little longer. They were not short. I felt that it really made me believe it was possible,” he said, “When I believed, I did it.”
Munoz was on the last hole over his Birdie Putt and realized the meaning of the opportunity he was confronted with. A 59 after a rounded Double was not only a reflection of his skills, it was also a reflection of his mental resilience.
In 2025, mentalardheid is in the spirit for Munoz. Only a few months ago he did not qualify for the US Open after he had missed a short putt in a play -off. On the Par-4 18th Hole on Friday, Munoz’s shot left him with a short putt creepy reminiscent of that qualifying miss. With a 59 on the cards, Munoz stared down the putt and left it out.
Despite the 59, Munoz does not obtain anything for granted on the way to the weekend. But he knows that such moments are rare, and that he has to cherish this incredible achievement.
“Really proud of the way I am the day, the start of the day, and how I just sorted,” he said.
Munoz has now etched his name in the record books of Golf – and with another round to go, he may not be ready yet.
