Sean Strickland slams Khamzat Chimaev for not defending the middleweight title yet

Heel-loving Sean Strickland recently issued a fiery criticism of UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev. While doing so, Strickland pointed out Chimaev’s inactivity and how the latter has not shown any interest or urgency in making the first defense of his 185-pound championship.

Last year, in August, at UFC 319, “Borz” dethroned Dricus du Plessis in dominant fashion to take the throne. Chimaev defeated the South African in the first round, scoring 12 takedowns and having a control time of almost 22 minutes en route to a unanimous decision.

However, it has been almost six months since winning the title and Chimaev’s next fight has yet to be announced.

The Chechen-born Emirati suffered a foot injury for which he will go under the knife. So that delays his return. “Borz” is expected to make his first title defense after Ramadan and will likely face Nassourdine Imavov.

Sean Strickland goes scorched earth about Khamzat Chimaev: “He’s just going to sit on that damn belt”

Sean Strickland, who returns to the octagon later this month at UFC Houston to face Anthony Hernandez, recently lambasted the middleweight champion for bringing the division to a standstill.

“Tarzan” mocked Khamzat Chimaev’s long periods of inactivity, claiming that “Borz” seems to suffer a mysterious injury after almost every fight. He said:

“It’s kind of weird how the UFC treats Chimaev. You bring a guy, and they fight once a year. Who looks like Madonna. I mean, how much money does that dictator give him under the table? The guy doesn’t have to fight, dude. He’s best friends with the damn warlord. He’s just going to sit on the damn belt and wait for them to force him to fight… You’d make more money not fighting for the belt than if you fought for the belt.” The belt isn’t even in my head anymore. I will make significantly more money fighting. Every time this damn guy fights he has a mysterious injury.

During the the same interview, Sean Strickland added that he believes he can solve the Khamzat Chimaev puzzle:

“That would be a big fight. I think I’m probably the only one who can beat Chimaev. I honestly think Fluffy is a better wrestler than Chimaev.”
