In retrospect, the Broncos could go through the first three weeks of their season with a mysterious player X on their 53-man schedule.
However, the moment Denver started his 2025 season, the information was simple, as head coach Sean Payton told after the loss of 23-20 on Sunday for the Chargers. Inside Linebacker Dre GreenLaw was four weeks away from return. The Broncos clearly thought that they could get the Binnenlinebacker back before their week 4 clashed with the Bengal on Monday evening football.
But this week GreenLaw suffered a setback in his Quad Rehab. And the Broncos were forced to wave the white flag and throw GreenLaw on an injured reserve.
“Listen, he destroyed his tail,” Payton said about GreenLaw on Sunday. “This will decrease a bit. We could have done it earlier, and yet there was still a goal date, and it was this week or next, and we felt that the last thing we want to do, would let him come out too early and turn it again.”
Payton said he and general manager George Paton were sitting at GreenLaw before he made the decision. The Binnenlinebacker has been on board with the Broncos plan for him, as Agent JR Carroll told The Post at the beginning of September.
“With the Broncos they did nothing but try to do what is in the best interest in Dre,” Carroll said then.
This long road was certainly not what Denver had in mind when she signed GreenLaw for a three -year -old deal in a free desk. Payton compared the Linebacker with Mike Tyson in the camp, but the Broncos have never seen so much one of the punches of GreenLaw.
And Denver has a striking gap in the middle of his defense without him in coverage, while the unity of Vance Joseph continues to be fragmented by passing tight ends and running. Chargers Rookie Omarion Hampton went for six catches and 59 Yards in the victory of Los Angeles Sunday.
The Broncos will have to hope that GreenLaw is ready to go with week 7 against the Giants and even more important, for a stretch run that only gains importance after a start of 1-2.
“We spent some time discussing,” said Payton. “And now there is still a lot of season left.”
Brees to hand: A few months after serving as a Yoda-like figure in Bo Nix’s offseason preparation, was 13 times Pro Bowl Qb Drew Brees on Sunday in Sofi Stadium.
This was a direct bond with the NFL roots from Brees, because the Quarterback spent the first five years of his career with the chargers before signing as a free agent with Payton’s New Orleans Saints in 2006. After a 15-year career in New Orleans, records with Payton, the now-46-year-old Brees are connected to Payton’s newest franchise QB this season, because Nix spent a few days traveling to San Diego for visits.
“That is more or less what I try to do with such a man, is behind it:” What are some things that if you were in a bad place, what would you do here? If you would go through this, what would you do here? “Nix described in July. “Just see how they deal with things, see how they deal with situations and experiences.”
Brees, too, Introduce with Payton for a few minutes of pregame on the sidelines.
