Sean O’Malley finally managed to snap his two-fight losing skid last weekend with a unanimous decision win over Song Yadong in the UFC 324 co-main event.
The fight was definitely a closely contested affair, and many fans and analysts felt that O’Malley didn’t do enough to be on the winning side.
In the first two rounds, ‘Suga’ was knocked down twice. Yadong fought a more calculated fight during the first ten minutes. In the third round, looking for a finish, the Chinese fighter switched to heavy forward pressure and walked into the fire, giving the former UFC champion the openings he needed to land crisp punches and clean counters.
After finally raising his hand, O’Malley expressed interest in running things back with current and two-time bantamweight champion Petr Yan.
Sean O’Malley admits he took winning for granted
At the presser after the fightSean O’Malley reflected on how special this win against Song Yadong feels. He also confessed that he had taken winning for granted early in his career. He said:
“Yeah, I felt like I took winning for granted for a while. I feel like I never lost. Never lost. Never lost. Now that I was coming off two losses, I was like, ‘Man, it feels really good to win.’ So I, yeah, I don’t normally have that either. Usually after a win, like I said, I feel like I would always win. So after I got rid of those losses, I definitely felt good.
