The Tigers held on goal difference last season under former head coach Ruben Selles. She she turned to Sergej Jakirovic as their head coach in June.

The 48-year-old, who hails from Bosnia, left his position as manager of Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig to take up a new challenge in England. He has also managed NK Maribor, Rijeka and Dynamo Zagreb in the past.

Hull City won 3-1 at Millwall last time out as they prepare for their upcoming clash against West Brom. Kyle Joseph scored twice against the Lions, while Oli McBurnie was also on the scoresheet. Here’s a look at three actions they should take before January…

Draw attacking midfielder

Hull City could use an extra attacking midfielder to play behind the likes of McBurnie and Joseph. HCAFC are said to have considered luring Fabio Carvalho back to the MKM stadium HullLive.

However, he has now suffered a cruciate ligament injury at Brentford and will be ruled out for a while. They are now said to be interested in signing Kieron Dowell on loan from Rangers, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Patreonand he would be a smart addition.

Bring in a new goalkeeper

Hull City could do with a little more competition between the sticks. Ivor Pandur is their number one, while Dillon Phillips provides backup for HCAFC.

However, the Tigers have one of the worst defensive performances in the league despite their eye-catching position in the rankings. So, it would be a wise move to enlist the services of another goalkeeper to push their current options. Pandur has saved two penalties against Sheffield United and Wrexham this campaign.

Relieve some players

Hull City playmaker Kasey Palmer has failed to make the impact he would have liked when he made the move to East Yorkshire in 2024. HCAFC signed him from Coventry City under former boss Tim Walter.

Palmer’s sale would not be a surprise in the coming weeks. The Tigers may also want to out-favor players like James Furlong, Brandon Williams and Harry Vaughan.

The latter joined from Oldham Athletic in 2023 and has made 19 appearances since, before being loaned out to Bristol Rovers last year to gain some experience. His contract expires in June 2026.
