Scotland came back from two goals to win the bronze medal on Men’s Eurohockey Championship II in Lousada with a 5-2 victory over Italy.
Italy started the game with good possession, but Scotland looked comfortable in defense.
While the Blue Sticks grew in the game, a loser would hit the wind. An Italian counterattack on the left revealed the Scottish defense and the ball was shot by Geronimo Clement in the right corner for 1-0.
It went from bad to worse before the end of the first quarter when Davide Arosio rattled a penalty corner for 2-0.
Scotland had work to do in the second quarter and they quickly rolled up their sleeves. Jamie Golden sent an unstoppable drag in the top right corner to bring 2-1 of it.
Then Struan Walker sent a tow film to the upper right corner in an almost carbon copy of the first to make it right. 2-2.
Momentum was with the Scots that entered the second half and they let it count with a third goal. Walker’s Penalty Corner Rebound thundered in the left corner of the net to bring it 3-2 to Scotland.
The Blue Sticks continued to stack with Italy in their own last third part, but as the fourth quarter progressed, the Italians began to bite back with Scotland who survived a few almost missers.
Italy handed over their goalkeeper for the last five minutes to give them an extra outfield player, and a number of desperate defense for Scotland led a number of desperate defense for Scotland.
Walker stepped up to hit the right corner for his hat trick and to seal the bronze medal for Scotland. 4-2.
A counterattack led to a different stroke for Scotland and with a second left on the clock, Walker saw the score at 5-2 to place a icing over the victory.
