With just a few games played, there is already a well -known ring over the Premiership table of the women. At the top we have Clydesdale Western, Western Wildcats, Edinburgh University and Watsonians, and only the cats have dropped points in a draw. On the other hand, there are six teams on one or no points.
However, there are a few new faces in the mix. St. Andrews University has moved to second place with two wins and a draw, so a top six place per Christmas can be on the table if they can keep track of Momentum. First, the students will strive to consolidate that progress with a home victory on Hillhead.
On the other hand, GHK, third last season, are at the bottom, but to be honest with the Glasgow side, they have a challenging start of the campaign with Clydesdale, Watsonians and Edinburgh University as an opposition. But management will still be disappointed without points to show for their efforts. Saturday will be a target for a turn-round in Fortunes with Uddingston as the visitors, and progress will be sought.
At the top it will require a great version to see one of the parties fall – Clydesdale Western Travel to Aberdeen University, Wildcats are at Glasgow University, and that is followed by two Edinburgh Derbies with University at Grange and Watsonians at Inverleith.
Perhaps the most unpredictable element in the comparison at the top is the likely impact of the University of Edinburgh with their enormous turnover of players.
Coach Henry Langton mentioned the departure – Ava Findlay; Ava Smith; Ella Agnew; Itske Hoftman; Jika Nyienda; Neave Halliday; Sophie Hinds; Georgia Kelly and finally Katie Binstead.- about half a team. Then a considerable inlet list came starting with Harri Platt; Johanna Muhl joins the German side TSV Mannheim on an Erasmus exchange until December; Harriet Bradley; and Clemmie Boyd return from a year of studying abroad; Sophia Donald goes up from the second series; And in the end Henry mentioned different first -year students in the battle
So what Henry has to say about the coming season: “Our focus with so much change was to create a strong sense of unity and determine the standards early. A good pre-season helped with these goals, so that the newcomers can make contact with the seniors on and next to the field.
“Now our focus will be to continue early progress and enjoy the process of growing together as a team through the season.”
Full points after two trips is a good start, especially the 3-2 victory over GHK, and Henry hopes that the visit to Grange will wear more fruit on Saturday.
In the premiership of the gentlemen, striker Fraser Moran, Western Wildcats, has been in deadly form since the start of the season – 14 goals in four games are good shooting. And it is the turn of the Grange defense to see if they can contain the auchenhowie target that can find the net of both open game and set pieces while the teams collide in fettes on Saturday.
This is a fixture that is notorously difficult to predict, but it can be ominous that Wildcats have scored 25 goals in their four games and moved to second place. Grange has certainly won three of their four games and was perhaps close to getting a draw with Watsonians last weekend, with a transitional air across the side. But the Raeburn -Place -Outfit will always be a threat and will drive their chances in every match.
After four straight victories, Watsonians go further on top of the stack, and you have the feeling that the visiting Dundee Wanderers have to dig deep to change something there. The TaySiders have made a reasonable start of the season and occupy it in the middle of the table, but it will be a test to see if they can contain a side of Edinburgh apparently on course for a tilt in Honors this season.
The University of Edinburgh looks in ominous form after the past weekend in the past in the past and it will be interesting to see if the gross Menzieshill defense has some answer to the freely scoring Jamie Golden who has so far has eleven goals in his three games. And there is also Keir Robb, Arthur Owens, Declan Bradley and others lurking in the circle. However, the Dundonians picked up their first points of the season with a comfortable victory at St Andrews University last Thursday, but GAV byers’ costs need some resilience to contain Edinburgh students.
The ESM Lions bubble was somewhat emptied with a 1-1 tie last weekend at Dundee Wanderers, but they still occupy third place in the table and manager Ross Young will hope to consolidate that status with a home victory on Clydesdale. Far from an unrealistic prospect because the Titwood outfit had a bad start to the season, although they picked up their first point with a draw against Uddingston last weekend.
Uddingston is the last side in the top six and another three points at home against Inverleith would confirm that. And the Lanarkshire side is on a mini-roll, unbeaten in their last three games. While their opponents have lost their last three games, very tough, but again, that was against the University of Edinburgh, Esm Lions and Watsonians of the Upper Echelons.
The last meeting brings two sides together that do not yet have to come from the goal – St Andrews against Hillhead. Not easy to predict this, although Hillhead has scored a few more goals than the students so far this season.
The opening round of the Scottish Cup takes place on Sunday with five tires in the men’s competition and 16 in the women.
